Hot topics: Operational Efficiency Programme and Budget 2009
On 21 April 2009, HM Treasury published the findings of its Operational Efficiency Review (OEP), which aimed to identify how additional financial savings could be made across the public sector. Chancellor Alistair Darling gave his annual Budget speech on the following day, in which he set out the grim state of the public finances and how the Government intended to get the country out of recession.
This CIPFA briefing sets out some of main implications of both the OEP and Budget for public sector managers in CIPFA’s Performance Improvement (PIN) and Finance Advisory Networks (FAN).
Pre-budget report: November 2008
The pre-budget report, published at the end of November, set out how the government intends both to tackle the immediate economic crisis and to promote the longer-term stability of public finances.
