Performance indicators

VfM Indicators for property estate assets
A suite of performance indicators for all sectors of public estate asset management first launched in 2007 by national audit agencies including the Audit Commission. These indicators are recommended to the public sector in the Operational Efficiency Programme Final Report, published April 2009.

Benchmarking services against these indicators are provided by third-party providers under licence with the audit agencies. The latest definitions for these indicators are published on the Public Audit Forum website (2008/09 definitions).

Licensed suppliers of this service include CIPFA Benchmarking. Central government performance against a sample of these VfM indicators, covering 2008/09, is reported in Benchmarking the back office: central government, December 2009, and its supporting table of data.

National Best Value Benchmarking Scheme
A benchmarking club for local government estate assets set up by the property professional societies in conjunction with CIPFA to provide a benchmarking service especially for local authorities.

NHS Estates and Facilities statistics
NHS Estates and Facilities Statistics from the annual Estates Return Information Collection (ERIC) return to the NHS. These are compulsory for NHS trusts and PCT in England. The site provides Estates Statistics reports dating back to 1999/2000.
