Surplus land
The Treasury directions on disposal of surplus land (October 2008) directs public sector organisations to identify surplus land and property as part of their asset management strategies and record it in the Register of Surplus Public Sector Land maintained by English Partnerships. The Department of Health directions on disposals of surplus land in 2008 provide additional guidance to health bodies.
Register of Surplus Public Sector Land
Maintained by English Partnerships Land on behalf of Communities and Local Government (CLG). The Register provides a single reference point for public sector on the national supply of surplus land and to help ensure that wider government objectives, including housing needs and regional economic and housing strategies, are factored into land disposal decisions. There is a 40-day window for public sector agencies and departments to identify new uses for this land. If the sites can be used beneficially elsewhere in the public sector they may be transferred at market value and then be brought back into beneficial use.
